Site reviewing is when somebody's site gets reviewed and normally this happens on someone else's site. That sentence didn't tell you too much though, did it? Because there's much more to it. Sometimes people review other people's websites without asking and this is normally when the reviewer is intending on pointing out the reviewe's errors. Often times the reviewer will point them out, laugh at them histerically, humiliate the reviewe and make this person look and feel very bad, but reviewing is often much nicer and friendlier than this. Usually you will see a page or a section for reviewing with rules, criteria, application form, queue, and finished reviews. The reviewer simply asks for a link back to their website for the time that the reviewe is in the queue and this can sometimes be a very long time or sometimes only a week or two it all depends on the person and the review length. Then there's also people who have short reviews and those who have long reviews and sometimes these long ones can take hours and hours and these are the ones really worth signing up for!
Reviewing without permission
This sort of a touchy subject because many people have different views on reviewing someone without permission. Some people think it's perfectly fine for them to express their opinions because they can type what they want on their website. Those people in my opinion, lean more towards the famous right of one's freedom of speech and less towads the part about "unless it affects people in a negative way". What some of these people don't realize is that reviewing without permission can often lead to upsetting the reviewe and the two site owners will probably start hating each other and throwing insults left and right. These insults surprisingly can actually be classified as cyber bullying and can escalate even more and more and just cause general conflict which is never good. You just have to remember that if you want your site to have reviews of people who didn't want them then be prepared for some very nasty comments and you have to be able to either get into an fight about who's better and why with everyone or ignore any nasty comments you may get.
Reviewing with permission
Most people will review when people apply. This is very good because this way you can make sure that the person wants the review and although you probably have a rule that says that the reviewe cannot complain about the review and that the review is simply the reviewers opinion you may still get complaints. But this method is much nicer because you will get a lot less if any complaints, and what's the point of a review? Isn't it to help someone improve their site making skills and not to try and humiate them or cause conflict? Well I think if the person is applying for the review they will try their best to take any critisism they get as constructivly as possible so they can improve their site. The only problem I find with this is that there will be a queue and often what happens is the person doesn't review so the queue just gets bigger and bigger. I find this very rude and annoying although, it is the reviewers choice.
Short or long?
In my opinion having long or short reviews is completely dependant on the reviewer because often times the reviewer just can't make really long reviews and that's okay. I find it really cool when I can find a reviewing site or a website with a secion for reviewing where the reviews are supper long. These people will go into every single detail and tell you what to do better and probably why you shouldn't do it in the first place. So if you find one of these sites then deffinetly take the great oppotunity and sign up, even if it's going to take forever to get the review it's usually worth it. Then there's some who have shorter ones a bit like me. Like I said short is okay but it's best not to have them too short or else the person wont get much out of it. So if they are going to be short then remember to include the key points and address them in a nice way.
Conclusion
Don't you find it funny how these days with sites like this one people will sign up for reviews at places that are also being reviewed by people who are being reviewed by somebody else. When you think about it, for the most part it just goes on and on until the chain finally reaches someone who doesn't think they need to be reviewed. All people want is to know what their visitors think of their site in a none offensive way and this is often done by reviewing. Can you imagine if someone asked in their blog what their visitors thought they should improve on. Do you really think they're going to get many honest responses? All this to say that I think reviewing is great and that you should also try your best to see your website in a way someone else might and when you get that review that makes it seem like everything on your website is horrible don't be discouraged just take it as constructive criticism.
